difference between D282 and D301

I have an early and a late D282. I would like to rebuild one and make it into a D301. What all would be involved in this and is it better to use the earlier or later engine? Also, what if anything would need to be done to the injection pump? Thanks in advance for all your replies!

A 301 is a 282 without sleeves. You can use either block and have it bored out and a top piece made to fit into the resses. You do not have to do anything with the pump but can turn it up to 2400 rpm to match the 660 or 2850 rpm like in a combine. Ih ran them to 3000 rims in trucks but I do not reccomend the higher rpms as too many combine engine through rods out the sides. I have a 301 block that needs to be bored and sleeves put in if it would help.

I think the later block would have the heavy press fit sleeve which has a flange that is not very much greater diameter than the sleeve. Not sure if you would need to rework block or not. Would be close.
