240 value

I am curios what a fair price is on a running 1958 farmall 240. It has some rust poking through the paint and one rear rim and tire are shot.Some of the white side trim is missing. It has a fast hitch and weights on it. It runs good. Any information on this will be helpful.

Assuming the engine is great and uses no oil, I would say 1200 to 1500. Tire issues are serious today. The tractors do not have Live PTO, and are a Super C with modernization to the looks and more power out of the same engine design. Jim

They are certainly somewhat rare for an IHC tractor especially the Farmall row crop model as only a little over 3500 were made. The International Utility model was produced in higher numbers like three times as many. I bought a very nice original Farmall 240 with low hours and very few issues except finish and missing the usual items that are hard to fine. Mine cost $4900 which I am presently restoring. All of the factory installed corks where implements are attached to the tractor were still in place. This was not a tillage tractor and was used in a u-pick apple orchard for very light duty work. They are like most older tractors condition is everything relative to price as I've seen a few of them in the $2000 or slightly less range which might make a good parts tractor at best. Since I wanted one for it's rarity I was satisfied with mine for the price.
The bad thing about the 240's is the lack of parts as most everything unique to one is NLA at CaseIH and no reproduction parts unique to a 240 are being produced to my knowledge. When you do find needed parts they are generally quite expensive. The Farmall model is really nothing more then a Super C or 200 in different metal and doesn't have any of the new features common on tractors of the late 1950's like TA or IPTO. Good luck in your acquistion of one if you are looking for one as they are certainly a nice looking and rare at tractor shows, Hal.

If by white side trim you mean the side panels, they seem to be missing on a lot of them. They are missing from my 240U and I have only seen them on a very few tractors. I don't know if the 340 is the same panel or not. Also, 36" tires are hard to find and expensive compared to the more common 38", and I imagine rims are scarce too.
I think $ 1500 to 1750 would be a fair price for one in that condition, but I'd try to locate a rim and tire first to see what you will have in it to just drive it... may not be worth that much.

The engine side panels are not the same as the 340. They are longer on the 240. They were being reproduced by a fellow in Indiana, but he got out of the business. I`m thinking Bates sells the repro`s now- pricey @ $100 a side, and that was a few years ago. The rims themselves aren`t scarce at all. The same rims as what is on a C,Super C,200,230 and 404. They are also available new. Titan and Firestone make 36" tires yet, used 36" tires are harder to find. Like Jim said, tires are a major factor in tractor values nowadays. Good Farmall 240`s are hard to find and without seeing a picture , giving a value is kind of a shot in the dark without knowing how complete it is as some parts are very hard finds.
