Cam gear -M

Bought that M to scrap and have decided to scrap mine. Has
live hydraulics with front and rear remotes, etc. With the wear
on things I know the hydraulics were used frequently. Seems
that the cam gear has been ok up until this point.

I will transfer the loader onto it after I work on the brakes
today. Is there an easy way to tell if it (a 49 model) has the
sturdier cam gear in it? I'd rather not assume it does and then
get to split things while it is covered in manure. That would be
one reason I'm scrapping mine, as it needed a new crankshaft
among many other things.

I would think that parting out the M with the problems would be a good idea, that way you could save the parts you think you might need for spares for the M you are keeping and sell the rest.

The tractor originally had the weak gear. If someone put live Hydraulics on it and used a M&W pump, or other distributor pump, there is a good chance the gear is original.(I would say 50-50)if the pump is the IH style pump, and the housing was changed to accommodate that pump, it is probably good to go. If the front cover was re-drilled to mount the pump, it is anyone's guess. Jim

Lots of years have went by since the tractors were made, new and used parts installed along the way. Only way to know for sure whats in any of them is pull the front cover and look, and sometimes the cam gear. Depends on what gear and the side the number is on. Can look at the hub thickness to tell the weakest one. Sould find a # on the gear, if its a IH gear you want one that the number ends with the suffix DA or DB.
