I have a 544 that needs a transmission gear(reverse/1st gear)noticed the bears have some play, how much back and forth play should the bearings have?
Any have a good source for both?
Thanks in advance.
Jay

From a look at the parts manual, There are both tapered roller bearings, and ball bearings in the trans. The tapered roller bearings must be assembled with preload, (no looseness at all, but specified pressure.)
Ball bearings need .0005 to .001" maximum looseness. They should be located on their shaft and not slide. This is not a perfect answer, but we are not looking at your dial indicator. Jim

Thanks Jim...Any one have a good source for these bearings, dealer wants over $400.00 for both.
Thanks Again..Jay

The bearing numbers off of the bearing races are going to be common bearings from companies like Motion Industries, or many other suppliers. The part number might also work. Shop it well and profit. Do not purchase bearings made in China. Japan is good, as is Germany, or the US. Jim
