Green guy with a Red question

Like it says, I love my two cylinder Deeres but I've always wanted a cherried out farmall M. Never was a better looking tractor ever made. Problem is, I know next to nothing about them so hopefully you guys can set me straight on a few questions I have.

I found an MD with a stuck motor for pretty cheap. I also have a running gas engine out of an 0-6 . I'd like to keep it all original with the diesel engine but if it cost to much to rebuild it, would my gas motor be a direct bolt in? If it's blown, does the diesel engine share the same rotating parts as the gas engine. Are there any differences in the throttle operating handles or any other linkages that I'd have to contend with? Lastly, the tractor has a wide front and I want a dual narrow front. Can they be swapped out without having to get a different pedestal and if so, are they fairly easy to come by?

Thanks

The length of the tractor (frame rails and hood)
are different. The engines have nothing in common but color. The gas will bolt in but the starter is different, and the fan would need to be extended to be correct at the radiator. Other items would need attention, like the hole in the hood for an exhaust pipe. There are also no common parts for throttle, or other engine controls. The trans and brakes are the same. The front end lower pedistal interchange across M, SM, SMTA, 400, 450, and 560 single narrow, and wide. Were it mine I would keep it diesel. Jim

I believe parts for the MD are more expensive and harder to find plus it would probably cost you more than a M in similar condition. As mentioned below probably better to leave it as a diesel or pass it up and get a regular M, they are plentiful.

Unless you have a sentimental attachment to the gas-start diesels, or have more money than you know what to do with, I'd advise you to go find a nice gas M, and take it home smiling. You'd be money and time ahead.

Welcome to the other side LOL, ya know once you start farmin with 4 cylinders, you'll never go back.
If your heart is set an an MD, there is a running tractor east of Tucson on Craigslist. I'd venture a guess, it could be bought for 1200.00, has a rear mount middle buster mounted on it and I never really looked, but might be a 3pt. Has single front, easy swap to nfe

Thanks guys. I went out to my uncles today (he's pulls a mean M) and he confirmed what you guys all said. He basically told me that the money it would take just to get that MD running I could totally cherry out a nice gas M and still have money left over. Unfortunately M's go for quite a bit in my area but I have a line one a good running gas tractor with new tires so I'll save up for a while longer and try to get it.
