Farmall H Carb Leaks - Video

I've noticed lately that if my H doesn't start on the first try I get some fuel squirting out of the carb. I took a video to see what you guys think. I turned the engine over with the ignition off just for the video. Are there specific parts I need to replace? It looks like it is coming out of the bottom screw and also from the choke shaft. Does it need a full rebuild?

Thanks for your help.

I would start with a carb kit and a rebuild. But I would also be doing a compression check on your engine. It should not have the back pressure with no ignition.

You left the fuel on at the sediment bowl, your floatdid not seat the needle valve and youe air intake hose is full of gas. First thing, Close bowl valve. then pull that rubber hose and drain the gas out. The fix the float/needle vale problem.

I don't need the video, that is a very common occurence on all letter series. Best to try to start the tractor with the choke off, then open 1/2 as soon as it starts to keep it running. Or open and close it while you crank, not more than about 3 revolutions. This typically happens whether or not you had the fuel shut off, less so if you have had it off.

If it indeed has gas in the air cleaner tube, yes your float needle is not seated. If it is dripping only from the bottom, then it is simply overchoked.

I"ve rebuilt my H carb a few times, and I always get the float hung up on the sides of the chamber. Dificult not to. Somene once recommended using Dremel tool and grinding away / smootihng out the inside of the chamber. GREAT idea. Gonna do it next time. Fore now, I have a shutoff valve right beside the carb, and use it every time I shut off. Works gerat.
