Radiator shroud

I have an aftermarket radiator on my M and I have read bad things about them but not until i put $350 into refurbishing it, the steering shaft hole does not line up where is should requiring me to put 2 gaskets on one side and none on the other (my father in law had previously done the same thing and thats why it required so much welding). I have to put 2 gaskets on one side and 1 gasket on the other so it doesnt break apart from the vibrations but now the fan hits the shroud at the very bottem.

Can I cut 3 inches of the bottem of the shroud so the fan doesnt hit without compromising the way the fan/radiator work? thanks guys, ~Anthony

One additional option is to elongate the mount holes in the shroud and /or ad shims to move it down (that would keep it basically original, and complete at the bottom. The cutting is OK, in terms of function. Jim

I had to ADJUST the mounting holes and cut a little on my H shroud to make it fit. Welcome to the world of chinese manufacturing.

I've never had to deal with that problem and don't know if this suggestion is any good. However, my first thought is to take the radiator to a radiator shop and see if they could relocate the steering shaft hole. Why mess up several correct parts to make a misfit work? Better to at least try to fix the part with the problem.
