super a pitman arm

hello, i am trying to get the pitman arm off to split my steering box, it is stuck. been reading past post and some of the post said use a puller but i don,t see enough room for the fingers of the puller to fit on top of the pitman arm what kind of puller do i need to use thanks keith

That arm is a bull. Took me 2 weeks to get one off a 130. A small 2 arm puller will fit in there. Instead of drilling a small hole in the shaft to center the puller, use a small nut, or a couple washers to center up your puller. Cinch it up. Spray lots of PB Blaster. Don't be afraid to give a couple good whacks with a piece of stock. I also applied heat with a propane torch. Most likely rusted on the shaft. Be patient. It will come off. May take a few days of blaster, heat and coaxing. By the way, I found a broken woodruff key inside my steering box. Swapped it out and now the steering is good as new.

Flopguns,

Should be the same as the 130.
Well worth the effort if your steering is sloppy.
Also a great time to change the seals, gaskets, and bearings. Mine was full of water after sitting all those years.
After you get the arm off, you will have to remove the key as it will not clear the seal. Do you have any pictures?

hello the reason i am spliting the gear box is that two of the bolts that hold the left culitvator in the lower housing are striped out so i thought that i would have helicoils instaled . i had a rebuild kit for the steering and thought that i would install it to. will try to take some picture of the operation , thanks keith

I"ve had to use the old reliable "Heat" method on more than one of them, they can be a @#$$@!V to remove any other way.If you are using it as a worker, you may be able to try to weld a nut on the casting, but to get out the old bolts will be a test of patience. They get "Mushroomed" over from being tightened over time, and impossible to get out as a result. As the guys said, may be a good time to renew the seals, check bearings/bushings,see if the retainer bolts for the two housing halves are tight, etc.

hello, i could tap them out to a larger size, the two bolts are the ones close to the block and i am a nut when it comes to being orignal with the right ih dot bolts will get a puller and try heat thanks keith
