Super C steering

Getting ready to tear the steering out of the Super C this weekend. I am tired of the oil leaking and there is a bunch of slop in the steering. My question would be, is this plug something special? It looks like a regular pipe plug. I have not had much luck getting it to break loose and I would about bet it will have to come out in pieces. I am going to try to grind wrench flats in it first and try to get it out that way. Just need some opinions on where to get a new one if it comes to that.

It looks like it is the original one, similar to my H. Notice it is hexagonal compared to a normal square pipe plug. Have you tried heating around the plug and using a good penetrating oil? patience is key. I have found out over and over the hard way.
 
It is a plug, but it is not a common pipe thread. It is a bearing retainer, and is holding a ball bearing from moving in and out. I would not remove it in pieces unless you have one to replace it with. Heat of the housing, and a 6 sided socket or hex box end wrench will make it move. A pipe wrench, or crescent wrench will round it to oblivion. Jim
 
On my H I realized it was just a big ol" plug, so I ground two wrench flats on it, and used a big pipe wrench. Came rightout, sorta chewed up but that does"t really matter. It is a highly specialized plug, unusual, but it"s just a threaded plug.
 
That plug sets the bearing behind the nut and if there isnt any end play in the input shaft there is no reason to remove the plug. For the steering play you need to start at the steering wheel thru the u-joints also th holder on the shaft that fastens in front of the bell housing. The if there is still play it would be in the sector itself. There are seals and bushings that need replacing.To get that nut off get a 6pt socket before you ruin it as thats not an common plug and if you still need to remove it use a sealer when you install or it could leak.
 
I have found that the removal of those plugs can be helped by taking a large (BIG) hammer and give the end of the plug a few very good wraps. I then use a box end wrench and you will need to tap it onto the hex of the plug with a hammer. The nut then screws wright out.
 
There are three items shown in your photograph that are associated with the oil reservoir for the bearings in the pedestal. One is the fill plug, one is the drain plug and one is the air vent. I would be willing to venture that the hole in the air vent is plugged. Since your tractor appears to have been repainted, it's probably plugged with paint.
 
AS the others have said patience is the key. Yes it is a special bearing retainer. I have been working on my BN and it is the identical piece. Heat;
A swift hard rap with a 2 pound ball pean hammer dead on should nicely releace it with out dammage. { IT IS A THICK WALLED CAP}. My father always told me " don't hit a stuck fastener lightly: Give it a strong Sharp hit" HE had worked for an IHC dealer garage and also farmed and was a well read learned person.
To rework the insides"" a long drift to remove the busdhings from the opposite end of the hole.
The large shaft seal you will have to gor to a bearing supply IHC I found does not have it any more.
