hello everyone, im building a farmall m for pulling and ive got a 400 engine block that i want to put the 281 pistons in and i have an lp head i want to use, but heres my problem. i dont no if Can i run a domed piston when using this head ? or would i have to use a flat top piston with this setup? and where could i get some flat top pistons in a 281 overhaul kit? any advice would be very helpful!
thanks for looking!

Some say what they used contacted the head. I installed one on a 281 firecrater piston engine. Pistons were IH for standard altitude and had no problem with clearance. Removed a LP head from another that had used the same pistons for a long time. Don't hold me to the # on the pistons but think it was 374306 or somewhere around that #. Could look to be sure if needed.

Some use the domed ones and then machine the piston dome if theres clearence problems with the valves. I would post this on the pulling site.

There is quite a bit of published information on building a Farmall M/400/450 engine for pulling. Last time I looked, 90-100 reliable horsepower had been reduced to a formula using readily available parts. For more horsepower, it starts to take a lot more money.

You should make sure you understand the rules for the events you will be pulling in before you start spending money, and then check in on one of many pulling websites.
