706 gas....what size implements?

Hey guys, I have a strong running 706 gas and I am not here to start a racket about what gas to burn and how much stress it can handle etc. My main question is, I farm small acearage (about 10) and I am wondering what size implements would be BEST and most manageable for this tractor. I would like to find a field cultivator, a disc and a chisel plow for it. Could you guys give me an idea what size implements to look for? Again, I don't want to pull the biggest thing a 706 can handle but just something it won't have any problems pulling.

Thanks a million,

Cole

Since you're only 'farming' such a small area,10 to 12 Ft implements would be about perfect.3 bottom plow would fit the program as well.A smaller width implement will also give more "seat time" :) Steve

For the chisel plow, figure 10 horsepower is needed for each one foot of chisel. A 14 foot disc will be a good match, and while the 706 will probably handle a 4 bottom plow, a 3 bottom would keep you from getting in trouble. A field cultivator would be in about the same class as the disc.

depending on soil type a five shank chisel would be good it might do a seven . A disc of like others have said 14 foot WITH duals as for a moldboard plow 4x16's is max . Field cultivator up to 16 foot . Here again soil type comes into play. I ran a 710 4x16 plow and a 370 13.6 disc with 20 inch blades , yes i could pull it with out the duals but did a lot of spinning . But i have hills and with the 4 bottoms on most of the time 700 was needed on the ft. and at times over a 1000 to keep it somewhat on the ground , i really don't like looking down the exhaust pipe or the sky when ya get on a hill and she pulls down and lifts the ft. 7 feet in the air before ya get the clutch pushed in and ride the brakes so ya don't just drop her. They do come up fast at times if she is locked to the ground.

A 14 foot disc and a 3 bottom plow would be perfect for your needs with that 706. I dont have any personal expierence with chisels to advise you on that.

I was just rembering circa 1970 dad, uncle, and Grandpa were farming the 500 acres they owned plus generally another couple of hundred rented with a 706, 2 656s, and an SC case. Dad was working in town and uncle milked. We worked kinda hard back then. We had an ih 93 sp combine and a two row new idea mounted picker for the 706.

With me my hobby farming was done with a 450 D and a set of 4 bottom semi mounts to start with then a 460 hated that tractor and only had it two years and it was history then i bought a rag 706 for next to nothing and ran it but nowhere near that many acres as one i could not find that much land to rent and time i did not have . Till i got out of trucking and started fixen and buying and selling . Then i farmed with what ever would run off the truck or what came out of the shop after repairs were made as i was sorta FIELD testing them before someone came in to buy it . There were times that the plow was dropped in the farrow because someone would come in and buy it in the field and plowing had to wait till i either got one up and running or went to a sale and bought something else. The one spring i went thru six tractors before i got fifteen acres plowed.

what? you need 200h.p.for 10 ft of chisel plow! holy smokes a 560 has no problem with 10 ft of chisel plow!

Have not seen a chisel plow around here in years. They are all coulter chisels.
I pull a 11 shank which is 14 foot wide with 4 inch wide twisted points with a 875 Versatile. 300 HP and it needs everyone of em.
Had a plain 3 point chisel about 10 foot wide in the 1970's, was all the 1066 wanted set at 170 HP.
Never seen a 560 on a chisel plow. Our 560 had all it wanted on a 4 bottom plow in the 1960's.

must be some hard ground. by chisel plow i am talking deep tillage cultivator with those twisted spikes. we pulled 10 ft. for many yrs. with our 560. must be totally diff. ground.maybe your working cement.lol.

Yes, It sure can be in our area. But, Mark, I bought a 10 shank Chisel with the 2" points on it, and have been pulling it with the old 806. I did 2 small fields. Needs duals, though. I can run it almost as deep as it'll go, but it will stop it dead in its tracks (lack of traction) if I bury it. -Andy
