Super MTA hydraulics

Somebody was asking about how to use a newer valve. This is how I'm doing mine. I gutted all the hydraulics out of the box. Made a bolt with 2 O ring grooves to seal where the handle used to go in. Still have to run the 2 hoses to the back. With the price of new tires, Found these ones. They are 480/80X38 on 16 inch rims. What I have in them, you couldn't buy the tubes. Plan on putting wide front end on with 11X15 tires on it. Should make it look pretty tough.

That's great, Now what are you going to use for a pressure relief . The pump does not know when to quite pumping till something breaks.

Where is the pressure relief normally?

Some valves have one built in.

Boy tractor vet, I thought of you being alot smarter then that!!! The valve I'm using is an open center, so the oil goes back into the reservoir just like the original. And the valve also has a pressure relief built into it that can be set from 1000 to 2750 psi. This is not my first day at the rodeo, but thanks for your concerns. And if you also noticed, it's a 450 I've made into an MTA. So, let's start the bashing!! It's mine, it's the way I want it, and that's that!

That is a Cross valve. They usually have a relief valve built in. Should be a round cap with about a 1 inch hex to the left of the valve spool. Can't see well enough to tell if it is there or not. If it has one it is probably set to about 2000 psi. I would back it off and bring the pressure up to no more than 1200 psi as that is about what these pumps were rated for. That way you don't break something expensive. Used the same valve set up on my M for many years.

tractorman your right on the money. I also have used many of these vavles. I've always had good luck with them. Thanks again

Hey i did not look the valve over that well all i was doing was pointing out . and myself i really don't care if your making a contorfit S/MTA. I looked for 15 years for the one i got and i am happy with mine just the way it is . And yes i am pretty sharp on farmalls .

Before you get your knickers in a twist, just think about what if you did NOT think of the relief valve already? You'd be kissing tractor vet's feet for saving you from splitting your pump in half, not getting defensive.

Just because you know doesn't mean that we know you know.

Heck, even if we know that you know, that doesn't mean you didn't forget.

You won't get any guff from me about your clone MTA. Taking a clapped-out 400 and making it into an MTA is on my list, if I don't find one.

Also just because a valve is open center doesnt mean the is no need for a relief valve. I also find it more likely that your valve is tandem center.

mkirsch... Understand where you're coming from, but I'm sure in your life there are people that rub you wrong. I'll leave it at that. The biggest thing you need for your 400 project is the top cover from an MTA or some say the later Super M. And the rest is pretty much bolt on. I used M sheet metal. I shortened and redrilled the frame rails to accept the sheet metal. Also used the 450 radiator, just changed the filler neck. Thanks for your input.

I like the big tires, makes it look tough as you said. I have a box fan looks just like yours from painting Farmalls ! lol Your tractor, your rules ,is what I always say.
