farmall oiling

I have a 1958 FA, 240 with oiling problems, when it's cold the oil pressure is 45 lb after about 10 min. its down to 0. That's the easy part, the one I don't get is that the oil on the dip stick is just like the day it was put in and the oil at the drain plug is dirty and black like it should be. Why isn't the oil circulating, is there an oil pump or are there slingers ??
Thank's for the help in advance.
Larry

Yes they have oil pumps and a lot depends on the type of oil you have and all that as for the PSI. If your running a 10W30 oil try a 30W oil since the muti weight oil like 10W30 is 10W oil with additives that make it act like a 30W when warm

If I had that problem on one of my Hs or Ms, I would be dropping the oil pan. Clean it out and clean the inlet screen on the oil pump. Sounds like sludge in the bottom of the oil pan.

Like others have said drop the pan and see . BUT if it drops off that bad that fast then ya may have a big problem with main bearings rod bearings and cam bearings .And also the oil pump.

thanks for all the good ideas. I"ll drop the pan in the next few days and see what"s there. The bearing are my thought on losing psi. but I would think with any psi at all I would be getting some movement of oil in the oil pan?

everyones sugestions are good, but also check the oil relief valve I think it is on the oil pump. Good luck, stumper

Any tractor with a C113, C123, C135, C146, or C153 is subject to having a warped oil pump cover since they all use pumps with aluminum covers. When the cover warps the shim gaskets blow out ans you lose oil pressure.

CaseIH still has the lower plate that warps. Many have been successful just sanding the old one flat.

Double check to see that you have the correct oil filter first.
If not,
Sounds like the oil may be dropping below the oil pump pick up for some reason.

That or the by-pass releif valve spring is sprung, spring not stout enough to hold up when it gets warm.

Double check the oil level, I would simply change the oil & filter to be sure of the viscosity & amount first & go from there.

How long has it had this warm oil pressure symptom?
Has it gradually become worse, or was it sudden?
