Took the SM and 2 bottom plow out today and played around in the neighbors field a little. First time really trying the plow out. Thought I did a pretty good job for an amateur just having fun.

Looks like pretty good soil. Your toy Deere is missing in the precleaner jar. :)

Got any close up pics of the hydraulic lift set-up? I've had just about all the fun I can stand using the rope-trip.

here's some pics of a no8 with the hydraulic conversion kit installed. Please forgive the JD cylinder.

No apologies needed for the JD cylinder. You used what you had. The #8 I am using is still the rope trip, but I have 2 parts plows with the hydraulic lift system. 1 of those is the conversion style, and the other, which might NOT be a #8, looks like it came from the factory as a hydraulic lift. All I need do is decide which one to use, and then dig it out of the plow pile so I can remove the parts. OH, I've got to get a cylinder also. That is the part that's going to hurt a bit.

Mine is slightly different than this one. My plow was a 3 bottom when I bought it but I dropped a bottom as I already have a 3 bottom rope trip. Have not had it in the ground yet though.

You could be having a lot more fun if you had a plow that you raised with a trip rope. Want no cussing when you plug it.

For the first effort it is amazing.
(do not take these comments as flame)
I think the rear plow is about 2 inches too shallow. plows almost always keep the turned earth level, so the only way to check is to stop with it in the ground, and measure to the frame at each from the ground. the coulters should track very close to the landslide and edge of the shin. When they do the top of the furrow is cleaner and less rounded. Great start to a life of turning soil! Jim

Looks like fun. I have never done that. I have a little one bottom for my garden tractor but nothing like that. Would like to try it sometime.
