263 CC gas carb

Can someone answer a stupid question for me. I"m looking at some rebuilt carbs and they show a 1 1/4 inch updraft and a 1 3/8 inch updraft. How do I identify which one is mine. What do I measure. Mine does not have a part number on the carb, but it is just like the carbs shown on the IH parts catalog. (388424R96) has the 1 3/8 Thanks as Always

Take a small, wire brush with brass bristles and clean some of the crud off your carburetor. Somewhere on the throttle body (upper portion) you will find a small, round, brass tag, riveted to the body. That tag will have the carburetor number on it.

The carb no. is on top under the gasket where it bolts to the manifold. Is their a difference between a 291cc and the 263cc inlet?

Thanks Vet. I was looking for a kit, but don't want to order wrong one. I want to get a complete kit, not a partial. I must learn what my carb number is. If there is a plate somewhere on it, I can't find it. I think the number is 388297R94 (B-36)

The only thing ya need is the body gskt. the carb to manifold gskt and a needle and seat . As that is all your going to find with out going to Case I H and buying each piece one at a time .

Would not argue with you as you have the experience. That is why I am looking to find a rebuilt from someone like All States Ag parts, if I can't find a good kit. I'm not paying IH prices

Carburetor kits should be named fits. Usually they give you a bunch of junk you don't need and the parts you want are not in there anyway. When I order parts I order individual parts. You never get the throttle shaft bushings in a kit and they are often needed. If you get a new nozzle, nine chances out of ten it will not be the correct on and carb will never work properly again. Air bleeds are not included and don't wear out anyway. Main jets are impossible to find, won't come in any kit and you only need them if someone has drilled out the old ones. In other words, like Tractor Vet said, get the parts you need. Forget the kits.

The same basic gasket kit with needle valve and seat that fits a Farmall M carburetor will work just fine. About $10.
