Super A sloppy steering

Hello all. My A steering box needs rebuilding and I was hoping just to adjust it. The manual says it"s Non adjustable though. Does someone offer a rebuild kit, Or could I get away with replacing the gears? I only use her for hay rides and show and tell so a patch in this case is good enough for now. Thanks.

have someone turn the steering wheel, first left and then right, stand in front and watch the pitman arm, if the pitman moves up and down, your top bearing is probably shot. with an experienced crew of 2, it is about all one day maybe more to replace it.

You could have either of two types of vertical shafts on that tractor, On the old style the shaft is a straight shaft. That requires a soup can shim in order to tighten the the steering arm. The other is a tapered fit on the bottom which is held on with a big nut this is the better newer style.
Up in the gear box is a sector gear which is keyed to the shaft the key could be worn of maybe even the keyway. I would take it apart and check these things and replace all the bearings. Doesn't get to expensive until you start replacing the gears or the shaft.
If it's the old style shaft the problem is probably the shaft is worn and you will have to shim it. You could have a lot of slop in the tierod ends too.
Super A steering

Start at the tie rods and work toward the steering sector. Mite need to take it apart and replace parts. All seals, bushings and gaskets arent hard to find. There is also a bearing thats bad. Ive done several when done they work just fine. I like to jack up each end of the axle to grease the spindles to get grease at the bottom where the wt rides. Even have removed the spindles to make sure grease fitting is good and get lube to the bottom. There is also a key on the gear that mite need some attention.
