My tractor has serial number 2310009B0051168-X which doesn't should up in any of the date ranges. I saw an old post from 2005 but no real answer. I bought it it refurbished which in this case meant it got a new paint job. My understanding was that someone imported a bunch of these from England almost as balast. It had a Lucas starter and a Lucas generator which a swapped for a single wire alternator.

What you have is a International tractor, they were not considered Farmall because they were not built with a single wheel or tricycle for row crop ability, the 2310009 is IH Kind & Code, 231 was a 574 gas & 0009 was a certain list of options, B means assembled in Britain, Doncaster Works I think, 0051168 (51168) was built in 1973, starting with 7074, X means Ipto 540 attachment, They made these in North American versions & European versions.

Thanks, are you sure about the 009 being gas, this one is diesel. I need to look at it again tonight, the B005 may be B00S,

My example was just to show what the numbers & letters meant in what order, I assumed it was a gas engine, 0008 could be gas.

Sorry, 230 Kind might be gas, 231 obviously diesel. 0008-0009 might be std tractor with certain transmission or rear axle options. I used to make out warranty claims at dealer level so I learned what these meant.

No problem, thanks for the info. So it looks like I'm coming up on my tractors 40th birthday. If I can get my PTO problem worked out, hopefully it can last until I'm tired of baling hay.
