What are you guys using for a small 12 volt alternator? Do I remember someone making one that looks like a generator? |

| The use of an Hitachi Alt from a 1986 Nissan PU is great. it wires just like a Delco 10SI. Hitachi 14231. Is the Model Number. "L" on the Hitachi is the same as #1 on the Delco 10SI. "S" on the Hitaci is the same as #2 on the Delco. Use the diode for the L wire with the band toward the alternator. |

| Thanks for the above link. I have a 6 volt Massey Harris that may now have another option. |

| A radioshack 3 amp will do fine. a 10 ohm resistor will do, as will an idiot lo]ight (non of these are grounded, they all connect the #1 terminal to the ignition circuit) Or L terminal if Hitachi. Jim |

| | You can get a cheap diode from Radio Shack. Not sure what number to look for on the diode. Diodes are rated in peak reverse volts and amps. the PIV isn't critical with a 12v alternator. I would think a 5 amp diode would be plenty. I'm sure there are people on here that can give you better info on diodes. I'm sure the single diode used on a briggs alternator would work fine. so if you have an junk briggs motor off a riding mower use it. That diode handles at least 15 amps. I replaced my diode with an idiot light which I purchased from auto zone, light and holder. I like the idiot light for 2 reasons, One it tells me the fuse going to the ignition/alternator is good and it also tells me when the alternator is charging. So does the ammeter. George |
