where does the tachmeter hook up on the tractor? We think it goes on the front of the engine but not sure.

| They made two distributor drives, one with tach drive and one without.
If your is smooth with no two-screw plate on the bottom, it's for one with no tach. If it has a flat plate with two screws that's where the tach drive assembly attaches & is run off the distributor drive gear.
