radiator placement

I am putting the radiator back on my M after being re-cored ($$$ ouch!). There is a good bit of front and back play where the two bolts on the bottom of the radiator go through the frame. Any suggestions on where it should be placed? Where should the shroud be in relationship to the fan? Even?

This got me thinking about a gap that this tractor always had between the grill and the hood. The recessed area of the grill (where it meets and goes under the hood) always showed quite a bit and it seemed as if the two peices should be moved towards each other. Since the grill bolts to the radiator, can I close this gap by moving the radiator closer to the engine?

Thanks for you help.

Make sure and put the grill line it up with the hood before tightening them down. You will also want to put back the same spacers you took out.

Place it so the hood fits the best you can get it and the steering shaft doesn't contact the radiator hole it passes through. Then make sure the fan clears the fan shrould to see if anymore adjustment is needed. May not get everything perfect at the finish. Some tractors sometimes need a shim under the mounting pad or pads to get the best fit.

Just put mine back in, you want to make sure the steering shaft doesnt rub on the inside of the radiator. You have to hook the top radiator hose up so that will give you your depth and the shroud should be even all around, if it rubs, find where the rub is and give the radiator some light taps with your fist to adjust it. Might not be textbook right but I worked fine for me. ~Anthony
