farmall h starting

is there a special way to start an h i got one it was delivered and since then i have not been able to start it ????????

Nothing special about it. Just pull out the ignition switch and depress the starter button.

Well to start with the obvious. If it is a kerosene tractor, you must start on gasoline (petrol) and you must be certain that kerosene has not mixed with the gasoline, otherwise it will NOT start. If that is OK, check you have fuel at the carburetor. Kero tractors have a drain cock and gasoline tractors have a plug. Be sure the fuel strainer under the large fuel tank is clean and that the fuel is clean and fresh too.
When I start my tractor I usually give it one crank with no choke at all and then the second with full choke. It usually fires on the second go and I quickly reduce the choke to where the tractor runs evenly. If you over-choke the motor, you will see fuel coming out the bottom of the carburetor. Turn off the fuel tap at the tank and then start the tractor. As soon as the motor is running, turn the tap on. You have plenty of time to do this before the carburetor and fuel line empty.
DO NOT stand beside the tractor to operate the starter button if you have electric start. It is a very good way to injure or kill yourself if the tractor is in gear. If you still cannot start the engine, it's time to check for other problems, like spark and timing or sticky valves.

Mine likes its choke, pull it all the way out then crank it. Push it in if it starts quickly, otherwise after a couple of seconds.

Air, Fire, Fuel are the basics needed to start. When properly tuned they start quick and easy.

I have 5-50's era Farmalls that all start without choke, usually within a couple revolutions of the starter.

I live in just outside Houston TX so never get cold weather.

Move to Iowa, they will need a little choke.

my letter series all start a little different. you may need to experiment to see what works best. my cub, throttle 3/4 wide open, full choke, crank till it starts , then slowly push the choke in. b, half throttle, full choke, crank till it pops, then choke off. h, no choke, throttle all the way closed. will start about 2 revolutions, then give a little choke while running till it warms up, then choke off. 48 m, full choke, 1/2 throttle, then push choke 1/2 way in till it warms up. 52 m, throttle all the way closed, no choke, start then apply a little choke. w-9, 1/2 throttle, full choke, slowly push choke in as engine warms. tempermental little rascals!!
