I've got a float that has liquid inside. I tried putting it in hot water to find the leak but no luck.I'd like to try fixing it before junking it. Its off a 30 year old snowblower so I don't even know if a new one is available. |

| | Repaired the float on my 560 Farmall. There is a small vent hole as noted below. I used a hair dryer to warm up the float, rolled it around to see where the "wet" spot was. Marked it, opened the vent hole, finished draining the gas, used a heat gun to "preheat" the float, and soldered the area of the leak. Maintained the "preheat" so I could solder the vent hole shut so expanding air wouldn't blow out the solder. Clean and shiney brass is good...LOL |

| I have used s magnifying glass to find the leak. Then open it up just enough to let the fuel leak out. When it's dry clean the spot with steel woool and solder it closed. Remove any excess solder with a small file. Then submerse it in a can of fuel and hold it down with a weight overnight. Check it the next day to see if it has fluid in it. If it doesn't,you're good to go. I have done this several times with great success. RR |

| Look for a small spec of solder away from the seam. Heat it with a soldering iron & open the hole with a pointed toothpick. Drain the gas out & resolder. Then put it in boiling hot water to find the leak. Solder the leak after opening the vent. After it is cool, close the vent & test again. Try not to add too much solder or it may get heavy. |

| Punch a hole in it and drain the liquid out. Plug that hole with JBWeld and put JBWeld on all the suspicious spots (those will be solder joints). Don"t apply a lot of JBWeld as that would make the float too heavy. That"ll hold it for a while, but as rustred says, the only real solution is to replace it. Floats can be resoldered, but doing so is a real PITA. |
