| I would replace the condenser. Touch those magnets with a flatblade screwdriver to see if they will attract that screwdriver with a lot of effort. If they appear to be ok and there's no fire with the new condenser you probably fried the coil. Hal |

| | Several possibilities caused by an accidental contact with the battery: 1 - Breaker point contacts got burned. Try dressing with a point file then resetting the point gap to 0.013. 2 - Coil primary has been fried. Check with an ohmmeter: A good coil will show a few tenths of an ohm between the breaker points insulated contact and ground with the points open. If the meter shows open circuit it's time for a new coil. 3 - The magneto magnet became demagnetized. Repair is best left to a good magneto rebuilder. --- As for testing a condenser, disconnect the wire from the condenser to the breaker points. Now take you ohmmeter, set it to it's highest scale then take a reading between the condenser's lead and case. A good condenser should initially show relatively low resistance which gradually increases over several seconds to several megohms. If the meter shows infinite resistance (open) or 0 ohms (short circuit) the condenser is no good. |
