30 or 31 loader

whats the difference between a 30 and 31 loader?was 1 designed for the H / and the other the M?

I was told that the way to distinguish between them was that the top cross bar on the frame was vertical on the 30 and horizontal on the 31. They were made to fit either tractor, the H used spacer blocks on the front casting to make up the difference in width. I think that the 30 was followed by the 31 but I do not know what other changes were made.

We've got a #31 & the crossbar is vertical. Dad bought it new in early '50's, & it has never been changed.

I was thinking the difference was one is a trip and the other was a hyd bucket.
