B Farmall front trans seal

Can I replace the front seal on the trans by breaking the tractor at the trans or do I need to break it at the bell housing first then remove the tube from the trans to replace the seal? Only seal I didn"t replace when I had it tore down and "Murphy"s Law" bit me in the rear.

You can break it at the tranny. After you move it a few inches so you can then unbolt the joint you then need to just go dsideways a little with either end of the tractor. I replace the bearing also when doing the seal. Most times it ends up making the tranny quieter. Ive done several. Those bolts holding the u-joint are tapered. Its never been a problem getting the drive shaft back into the pressureplate when going back together. You will need either end of the tractor on some kind of rollers.

Yep, what Gene said. I did mine last winter, not a bad job. Those front transmission bearings have a bad name. If you are going to have a bearing go out in the transmission, odds are it will be that one. good luck
