Not sure - but I think that's a fram number.
Should be under $10
Check at the store to be sure it's just the element and not the enclosed can version - not sure why but that's happened to me twice. |
I have been using the NAPA 1172 in my 140 for almost 40 years--I have never gotten the can version and I ask for the number, not the application. It's a paper element filter with metal ends and tube. It is made by Wix (like most NAPA filters)--says so on the box, I just looked. I use NAPA Wix filters in everything I own, from BMW to leaf blower (fuel filter).
FRAM 1172 is a Cadillac transmission filter. You demean a fine filter, sir. |
I've used the NAPA 1172 also, and it is a good filter, but I stopped using them when NAPA stopped including a new gasket in the box with the filter. I feel it is a very good idea to change that O-ring every time. |
I have heard that before, but I buy them at the rate of one every six months since about 1975, and they have always had the O-ring. The two I bought this Spring both have them.
If they did stop--and I believe they did--it was either one batch or for a relatively short time. (I just looked in the second box to make sure--it's there.)

Good enough!! The last time I asked about it, at NAPA, I was told the gasket was not even available. Apparently they saw the error of their waysand fixed it. |

| | I guess it was a Napa filter I got then. But as I said - two times I ended with a metal encased one. No idea how they got it messed up - but all I do is give them the number - maybe just a coincidence. Who knows - all I'm saying is look in the box before you leave. Mine always come with an o-ring. |

| | You can use the IH filter #376374R91 or Fleetguard filter # LF618. I would only use a BALDWIN filter as a last case/desperation/emergency fix. They use cardboard center tubes and are of low quality construction. |

A magnet will stick to the center tube. I just tried it. The center tube is NOT cardboard. |

Yes, the Super A will use the Baldwin PT71.
The earlier As would use the Baldwin PT70.
The Baldwin is probably as good as it gets, which is not to say other brands might not be as good, but the Baldwin is made right here in the U.S.A. Kearny, Nebraska to be exact.
Anyone know where the Fram is made? |

| I have just the regular old A. Got my filter at Napa. handed one over the counter. If they don't have can get overnight. should be same for super A, C, 200, 230, H, W4 etc. |

| If it is the canister style like the 140s I think a Fram C135 fits. |
