I've been thinking about another tractor in 40-70 HP range. I saw a 504 gas, WP, fast hitch sell last month for about 2800 dollars. Hey that's affordable to me. So while I'm familiar with the 4/560 tractor....hows the 504? Parts are important too, this would be a working tractor.

Its a decedent of the Super C, really a hybrid of a
couple models to make the 504. If you want a good
tedding / raking tractor they fit the bill will. Not
a heavy tillage tractor. I would look for a 656/666
myself at 60+ Hp there a great all around machine. just search the archives lots of thread"s talking
about the 504.

504 is pretty much a bored-out, wound-up Super C engine bolted to a 460 rear end. Has live hydraulics, live PTO, many have a 3pt hitch (some have fast hitch), and a TA.

Around here they're universally sneered at as "gutless wonders." I still want one. The Farmalls are attractive looking little tractors, and handy for things that don't need major lugging power.

Kinda rare, but they do share many parts with other tractors.

Engine is a "parent bore" type with no sleeves AFAIK, and can only be bored out so many times. If the engine is relatively fresh, this is nothing to worry about because you'll never use it enough to wear it out in your lifetime.

$2800 is only worth it if the tractor is in decent shape. I wouldn't pay that for a leaky beater.

Forgot to mention, parts are available but can get a
bit pricey when dealing with the engine (C-153). Im
rebuilding a late C-135 (basically a sleeve version
of the C-153) in a T340A crawler and parts are a
fair percentage more then the Super C's C-123 or the
A/Bs C-113.

OK thanks guys. Guess a 504 isn't in my future.

Love to have a 656 but round these here parts that's a 6K tractor and at dem prices......well not right now....

I had one several years ago,Farmall row crop, nice little tractor the only complaint I had was the power steering didnt work good enough to suite me when using a loader on it. Maybe mine had something wrong in the steering though.

I"m with DeltaRed on this one.I can"t believe IH claimed one could use a 2 row mounted picker on a 504.We had one neighbor that bought a new 504 and picker outfit, but it was only one season before that 504 was traded for a 656!! Kind of reminds me of the 611-B Case-

I have a U and a row crop,if you think of them as an H with live pto and hyd. They were rated as a three bottom tractors, they have there place but I really use the 656 Hydro more.

Ok thanks for the info. Guess I'm looking for a 4/560D again. 656 is out of my price range this year.
