Super MTA Steering Shimmy

I have a "54 SMTA. The tri-cycle front end shimmies real bad when you are in fifth gear. I had a gentlement tell me that if i turned the steering gear around in the top of the front end steering gear box, it would stop the shimmy. I need some help to get this gear out, and also a lot of the play seems to come from this gear, but also lower down the steering "shaft or tube". Any insight would be appreciated.

A worn out steering gear will cause excessive play in the steering, but it will NOT cause that shimmy. The shimmy is caused by worn out bushings in the bolster, and by excessive wear on the bolster shaft itself. Nothing short of building up the worn spots on the shaft and then installing new bushings will fix it.
