H Farmall Air Cleaner Dry Filter

I have an extra air cleaner for my H. I want to gut it and install a dry filter inside it. Has anyone done this and have some info? If so, what filter number did you use? Thanks.

(quoted from post at 07:16:21 09/10/12) Why do you want to do this? Oil bath cleaners are more efficient.

No they are not! Look at the big businesses that buy equipment and keep very careful track of equipment cost and repairs. If they found that dry filter elements caused them to rebuild engines or repace equipment faster they would demand and get oil bath. No manufacturer would refuse them when they are buying million dollar plus equipment. I had an ONAN air cooled engine that was rated at 5000 hour overhaul interval in dirty conditions, yet my liquid cooled Ford at N has about a 2000 hour interval. Diesel tractors with dry filters got over 10K hours on an engine.

I think that myth was started buy 2 groups of people.

1. The real tight wads who like oil bath cause it's cheaper in the short term.

2. The it's gotta be all original correct police.

Oh forgot to add.....

Dry media automotive/AG/heavy equipment air filters can be as high as 98% efficent. Really cheap or high flow performance filters can be as low as 60%.

Oil bath is 80% efficent.

Getting back to the original question. You would have to make sure that the filter seated and SEALED properly for it to work.

This is going to be for a pulling tractor. Yes I do know the pluses and minuses of dry verses oil, but I would like a dry filter for my pulling tractor and keep the stock look.

I did that to my JD 435 it worked well. You'll need to measure the length and diameter of the cannister and find one that will fit inside before you butcher the one you have. Google is your friend.
