My buddy has a 154 Cub lo boy. The problem is just baffeling me. It won"t run right for anything. You will start it and it just spits and sputters, runs good for a bit, spits and sputters, then dies. Its getting fuel, has spark, good points and condensor, fires on all plugs. It has a new carburetor on it also. I put the old carburetor on it and it does the same thing. Also has new wires, rotor, and cap. The timing is set per the I&T manual as I did that tonight. I"m at my whits end trying to fix this thing. Any help or guidance is appreciated.

undo the fuel line at the carburetor. turn on the gas, you should have a stream of gas almost the size of a pencil. if you don't, then clean out the settling bowl and valve and etc.

I have had the fuel shut off in the tank plug, and they wont flow enough gas to run right.

Spits and sputters, it's lean OR your ignition is erratic. I like the distributor idea and think Id test/look at that next. Do you have a timing light? Put it on and see how steady it flashes or if it's jumping around or not flashing steady. And of course the default did you clean your new points? Sometimes they get a little funk on them and don't conduct well, douse 'em with a contact cleaner or polish them real fine sand paper

Wiggle the distributor shaft. In all directions it must not move more than .001" (not in and out) if it moves it might be that. Jim
