Well, I went ahead and took the bearing apart anyway after i saw seepage coming out the back of the hub. After I broke down the bearing I understood why their was seepage. The packing grease was more like a real heavy gear oil. Real gooey like. Not very much fun cleaning that stuff out. Once I had it all broke down and the tire off the rim, I decided to give everything a fresh coat of paint.
After power brushing , then dusting everything off with my $39 sand pot from HF, I used the rustoleum self eching primer and hammered aluminum, and used the new Majic IH red from TSC. I really love that red. It looks so good, you almost want to bite into it. It's as red as it gets. Some real nice SS bolts and washers too from Gulf Coast Bolt and Screw. Here's an after picture.

| Do you have the seal that goes on the spindle before anything else? Keeps dust out of there and grease in. Two, very nice job. The fronts look great when you do them with the tires off. I use a 40 grit flap wheel on a 4 1/2 angle grinder, on the rims prior to priming. There are usually many many little dings and cuts and threads on the edge of the rim. With a flap wheel you can take them off both the outer edge and the inner curved edges. And the pointed tip of a body hammer will take out the larger dings. Makes em look like factory new. Don't be afraid to use some paint. Two full coats wait til tacky, two more, wait again and then final two. Hit those bolts one more time. |

| Patrick, Great job That is the way they are suppose to look. and the way a standard tricycle front should look! If you take the notion, Pull the rims back off, tape off, & paint the Cast Iron Lug Bosses, IH Red, (3/wheel) per factory paint... My dads 50 model was that way originally, it adds that little extra touch most people don't do! Still, Great job, and you will really like the way the tractor handles set up in it's narrowest position. Later, John A. |

| Did you happen to record the data from inside the rim? Were those rims that had red bosses made by Firestone? Do you suppose they were blistered and a little brown tinged due to riveting after being painted? No way rim maker masked the rim and boss and then painted them red. Or was that riveting a cold process? What do you think guys?" A bin of red bosses and a bin of galvanized rims and a man with a rivet machine? |

| Gordo These tires haven't been off in yrs. Dad bought his Uncles 50 model M in earl Summer of 1960, from his Aunt just after he Passed. That tractor wasn't repainted to my knowledge for it was shedded all of its first 10 yrs of life. I repainted it in the Spring of 1979. when I had it in Tractor Shop @ Tarleton State Uni. Those wheels carried the Red Bosses till I painted it. Seeing Patricks pics reminded me of that little bit of info! Anyway....... Later, John A. |

| No I didn't Gordo. Never occured to me. I'm sure they are 62 year old factory originals, and really show their age. After I got the wheel mounted back on, and got everything buttoned up, I gave it a good spin and saw that the wheel has a very bad wobble. Well maybe not that bad, but it does wobble some. A true testament as to how hard a life the old girl has had during it's last 62 years. I'll get by OK with it. After all, this aint no hot rod.
You guys got me all lost on those red bosses. Never seen or even heard of any. Just never really been exposed to all this Farmall stuff, but I'm catching up. I'd like to see a picture. |

| Ssme experience. Took my H hubs apart last year, and the lube was that thin black gooey oil too. Replaced it with actual wheel bearing grease, but I wonder why/how the this oil goo gets in there to begin with?? |
