need some advise on my cub

i decided to swap out the manifold on my cub since the exhaust stack refuses to remain attached to the manifold where it joins it, after numerous welding, brazing ect, and i had a good one to put on, it came right off the parts tractor, should have been a 30 minute job, now you know it isnt going to be that easy , and it wasnt, now i got about 1/4 inch of one of the middle studs broke off in the engine of the using cub, right in the middle of mowing season, !@#$, cant even use the manifold flange to keep the drill centered in the hole so since it broke off im figuring a ez out will be about useless as its probably corroded in the block, so what will happen if i use heat around the broken stud on the block to break the corrosion loose? will it hurt the engine, also do these studs go into a water jacket, if i drill thru it? any advise, i really need the cub running today, this all started because it was dying while mowing at part throttle, it had spark,so i blew out the fuel lines, cleaned the sediment bowl, and the cap vent, check for fuel flow, the cub did it again, so i figured i must have trash in the carb, and since i was going to clean it, it was a good time to swap the manifold out too,

The only thing you can do is drill the stud out.

Heat would only help on the stud itself, but since it broke off in the block you can't get the heat on it.

DO NOT use any "easy out" product. It WILL break off in the block, which will ruin the entire engine block!

Best thing to do is weld a nut on it and do a HOT weld then let it cool and try again . When i run into this i weld a nut on with Royal 220 rod and most times once it is cool and i mean cool it will back out .

Use left handed (backwards) drill bits, that way all the drilling effort you're putting into the darn thing is working at loosening the stud.

Tractor vet's nut idea is the best, but it only works if the stud is sticking out at least a little bit.

If the stud's broken off below the surface, it's not going to work.

Then WHAT are they good for?? Haha, I have first hand expeirence with this this past weekend. Got one broke off & stuck in some threads on a fuel tank. NIGHTMARE!

I'm going to disappoint somebody, but here goes. Many decades ago, I had a career in a shipyard, East Coast, and there was some sort of device they clamped around a broken-off bolt (you talk about RUSTY, try salt water...) and this gizmo electrically/electonically somehow dissolved the broken-off bolt. Sorry, don't know what it was, but if somebody knows somebody, somebody might know what it was/is.
