farmall h power steering

Popular way seems to be to install a CharLynn or Behlen torque motor in the steering shaft and use an automotive PS pump to power it. CharLynns are still available new, don't know about Behlen. Old GM (Saginaw) pumps are popular, but there are probably several that would work. Dad had a CharLynn and Saginaw setup on a JD 60 whan I was a kid and I have a CharLynn with a priority flow divider off the system pump on my 240U. You would probably have trouble running one off your H internal pump... you need live power.

Look back at a post (charlynn power steering install) made on 8-28. It has pictures of a charlynn steering unit mounted. Original charlynn kits used a pump and reservoir that called for a hole cut in the hood. Poster used a automotive pump that looks like it will fit under the hood.

I would put a pump on, the standard H does not have live hydraulics, and the live pump is not abundant on flow.

I just finished putting power steering on my H useing a char lynn torque motor and a put from a mid 70s chevy truck. It took some time to make brackets and get everything to line up but once you do it will all fit under the hood. I also added a hitachi altenator to give more room on that side. I am real happy with how nice it steers now
