Tillage Implement

Here"s what I"m after: I"ve got a farmall 130 with
a fast hitch and I would like to find or fabricate
an implement that will prepare my garden. I"ve got
a disc and moldboard plow, but I"m looking for
something that works more like a chisel plow. I no
I don"t have the horse power for a chisel plow,
but thought maybe I could find something that is
similar that would allow me to work the soil to
about 10 inches deep. The garden is only about a
half acre so it would be okay to have something
that would work even if it took multiple passes.

Thanks

If I were you I would rig up a toolbar that you can clamp shanks onto. Many types of shanks were/are available for 2-1/4" square toolbars (positioned on edge, not flat, so it is actually "diamond shaped"). A shank with a chisel point behind each rear wheel would always be working up what you drive over and after a number of criss-cross passes you should be down a foot or so.

I made a cultivator that works great, i will try and post a picture. Erik..

No offense erik, but something like that will barely scratch the surface of unworked ground, and you'll bend the heck out of the tines trying.

A 130 should be able to pull one actual chisel plow tine.

I would try to find a salvage yard that's scrapping an old chisel plow. Get 2 tines (one for a spare) and a piece of the toolbar. You can get new fast hitch points from Agri Supply online for a lot less than used ones on ebay.

After that all you need is some steel to tie it all together, and a welder.

It will go 6 to 8 inches in my sandy soil or as deep as the tractor will pull it. This was a 8 ft triple K cultivator and i took the back row of teeth off. But you could make it any size you want. I still have the wheels for it but i dont use them. It works great.

You have a moldboard plow and it will go 10 in deep so just use what you have. Mite need some wheel wts for traction. If i can plow 10 in deep with a B you can too. Fall plowing is best for a garden plow and let alone till spring lets the soil "cure"
