That screw goes into the hex brass screw which screws onto the threaded end of the condensor in side the mag where that brass screw fastens to the condensor is a wire coming from the coil and another wire going to the points. The screw holdsthe wire coming from the sw to ground the mag to stop the engine. So tighten the hex part. Dont tighten the screw head until the wire from the sw is connected. If you take the cap off over the coil you can see the wires and can check to make sure they are not grounded. Have you removed the mag from the tractor as it mite be out of time 180 and check the wires going to the plugs to see they are in the correct position. Have you replaced the points if you took off the cover the wrong place the rotor mite be out of time also. Removing the cap and turning the engine over you can see the rotor snap then make sure its firing at the tower where the wire goes to the plug.

There is a clamp to hold the condensor and if its not there the condensor will turn and it hard to get that nut tight without screwing up the two wires on the post. If you need that clamp as i should have one. It fastens to the rear of the condensor.

If it has a mag, you shouldn't have any battery power going to it. The points and coil may be fried. A mag makes it's own power & spark from the rotating magnet. The part that you are turning is connected to the condenser inside.

The screw is in the circuit and provides power to the breaker points for spark. Be sure all the connections associated with this screw are clean and power can flow through. There are some test you can run to check connectivity and to verify that the mag is generating enough power for a spark. I have done it for a coil ignition but not for a mag so someone else will have to help. If the screw is loose it may be that the points are not properly installed.

That screw has noting to do with the points it is a connection for the sw to ground out the mag to stop the engine. You shouldnt post when you dont know the facts
