is this tractor worth 2 grand

This 656 hydro gas is for sale locally for 2 grand. he says it needs a crank. It has 4 new tires and the head was totally rebuilt last year.What do you guys think? good deal or bad deal? Thanks Kent

Spinding another 3000 for crank and components to make a solid engine still makes it a good buy.
However, the hydro is a pricy item to fix, and impossible to test. The word of the current owner is all that exists to define the wear and performance. You cant check any critical system. If the owner was unwilling to put that money in it what other factors were hanging it the decision. Look at the hitch and pedals to see wear and general neglect. Why did the engine come apart in use. The tires are worth the price, but caution is needed. Jim

It's a good deal if indeed the crank is the only thing wrong with it. If you buy it and YOU put a crank in it and find out more is wrong I would think you could almost break even parting it out because you'll have a good motor and good tires and a few thousand pounds of tractor scrap. OR a good motor and tires to move to the next project tractor and possibly more tractor scrap.

Fenders $500,tires $1000 ,weights$50 each wide front $1000 already ahead of game.If you fix motor, [combine motor a possibilty] you can spend more money than its worth.Minus the good parts you would still have 6000# at $180 a ton.Looks like an easy way to make $1000 or more just takes a little time and work .

I just did the hydro in a tractor like your looking at.......FIVE GRAND!!!!! Make sure the hydro is good!
