My tractor has a lot of shimmy going down the road. What do you think I need to replace in the steering system. I know I had an H and an M, they had a bearing at the top of the sector that when it was worn I got the same shimmy as I have in the 300. I don't think that bearing is in a 300 is it? |

| The parts from a H Super H 300 & 350 inside the bolster are all the same, vertical shaft, its gear, seals & bearings, the bearings & seals, all the same part number, the worm gear same but the shaft out the back are specific to tractor model. M Super M 400 450 same but heavier in the vertical shaft & bearings, gear & worm. Most common failure was front worm bearing under plug, IH part ST678 was high $ but HD bearing. |

| | Is there another part number for the thrust bearing you reference besides ST678? Can"t locate that part by that number? Thanks Mac |

| The ball bearing has an engraved number on the side. It is a Deep Groove heavy duty bearing. Do not buy a non-brand name bearing. Especially if it is made in China. Jim |

| Where did you find that bearing? Do you have any idea what the Farmall part number is? |

| They are the same design. With it stationary and with a helper, Put left and right force on the steering wheel and look carefully for the play. Ujoints in the shaft, The ball bearing in the box, the gears in the box, the upper bolster bushing, the lower bolster bushing, wheel balance, spindle bearings, loose wheels, and out of round tires are all contributors to some shimmy. Jim. |
