I have a 6", rear mounted, pitman arm sickle bar mower for my Super A. On the outside end of the cutter bar is a spring loaded rod bent around to make two rods that "rakes" the hay back towards the tractor so the end of the cutter bar closest to the tractor doesn"t clog up on the next pass. Someone needed it more than I did as it "disappeared" one night. The rod, the bracket, the spring and the bolt are all gone. I"ve looked through the archives on this site and I think it is a model 16A. I read that this is the only rear mounted mower that IH made for the super A. Is that correct? The only numbers I could find are on the "bar foot" (or whatever it"s called) closest to the tractor. They are 51491 R4. Obviously I need to replace these parts but I can"t find anywhere to get them. The IH dealer site doesn"t list any implement parts, at least as far as I could find. Did I not look close enough, or do I have to call them? If not at the IH site then where might I find these parts?
TIA
Dave L

Under modern view, this site automatically censors certain words. In modern view, the post is blocked and the message content discarded. If a post is made in classic view, the words get through and the post is allowed. But if a message with the offending word is displayed in modern view, a made-up word, abbreviating "bulletin board allert" is stuck in place of the offending word. Interestingly enough, the abbreviated made-up word itself is censored so I can't include it in my explanation. This site has chosen to include many competing companies in their banned word list. This is why you frequently see vague references or odd spellings for other sites and businesses.

For those of you, like me, using modern view, I went over to classic view to see what the alert is this time.

It is something spelled similarly to Value and Built.

Should be an a-21

And a-24 is the heavy duty mower - you can tell that one because it has two springs instead of the one.

The board isn't critical - any universal board, or one from a john deere will work just fine.

You can even just bolt on any old chunk of wood, it should work fine.

Thanks JR. If the springs you are refering to are the two large ones in the rear of the mower, I guess I must have an A24 as there are 2 springs there.

If memory serves, you have the "A-24" mower.Sounds like the guys have advised you correctly,as IH made a couple of different versions of that rod style swathboard, and parts would be difficult at best.Watch your fingers mounting that mower, you likely won"t forget the first time!!

Good advice Ol'. I've used this mower years ago and clearly remember how easy it is to loose a finger! I never did, but I came close a few times!
I think your right about it being an A24. It has the two springs instead of one as Mr. Sutton pointed out.

16A is the rear mounted mower for the old A. The Super A used the A-21. As already mentioned, there were several semi-mounted that can be used on the Super A.

No way CaseIH is going to have a part like that. Your only hope is to harvest one off another mower.

The beauty of it is, the mower bars are pretty much universal on the pitman type mowers. The only difference is the length of the bar.

Most good farm and home places sell a universal fit swather that will bolt on just fine. I have one that came off a JD#9 on the sickle mower I have on my A. But then when I brought the JD#9 back to life I had to make one to fit. By the way a board type can also be used. Well I was going to do a picture of one but it will not let me. Send me an e-mail and I can send you the picture of one you could make

Well, after I found out from you guys what to call it :-) I called around and found a metal universal swather or swath board at Value Bilt. I tried quite a few of the normal sources and was about to give up and make one from the diagram that Old sent me (thanks again Old) when I found it at Value Bilt. Who by the way was referred to me by another store, Tractor Supply Co. These guy and gals at the various tractor parts places sure are friendly and helpful. Come to think of it, so are all you guys on this forum.
Thanks again for all the responses. Very helpful as usual!
