What a coinicidence, I just found a 1486 too, it needs a clutch or a TA, not sure yet, it moves with the ta back, but not when ahead, thats why I think it is a clutch. Needs 2 windows and cab kit. Has really good rubber, and runs great, overhauld 1000 hrs. ago, has 7100 on the tach now. Is yours a later one with the digital tach and the bent shift levers? The one I bought is a late 1979 as is the newer one, they are a lot more desirable that the first few years. Like someone said 4000 is not much, if it has any weights or anything else on it that is worth something too. I gave a little more than that for this one, I have to get it home yet, about 30 miles away.

Don't blame you if it is in that poor shape and is an early one. Mine does have the dual PTO on it, don't know which way was factory? If it had a loader the shift is probably really wore out, 86 and 88 series where not the best loader tractors in my opinion because of the shifting wear and tear. Brother in law has a 5088 at his place that has loader in it is terrible to shift, my 5288 has always been a tillage or hauling tractor and shifts nice and tight.

Run don t walk and do it fast. If the glass is bad the linkage will set up under the cab for hyd,3pt,and such. I don't like the whole set up compared to the 56/66 series.

When tractors start out with small problems they seem to multiply.$4000 is around salvage and if the air doesnt work, and a complete cab kit that mounts up.The clutch part will probably require a split.Good ones usually bring around 10K/12K.Plenty of power, cab hard to enter, and ride a little rough.

The stuck clutch could be a bad throwout bearing. A bad cab mount could case this too. It lets the cab settle and bind the clutch linkage.

Nothing inheritantly wrong with them. Given the description it would certainly be wise to anticipate spending additional money on it. The way things are now with parts prices you may have as much into it in a few years as if you had bought a known to be good machine. However, there is something to be said for going into it and squaring it up and knowing for sure it is right.
