Engine removal/side rail

Im going to block up the rear of my M, so my question is, can I remove just one frame rail to remove the engine and still have the tractor be stable? Will the 6x6's and a 8 ton pump jack under the transmission housing be enough to take the pressure off the single rail connected to the front bolster?

I dont have the tools to build splitting stands...

thanks guys

You have to remove both side rails. The plate bolted to the back of the engine is sandwiched between the side rails and the trans tube.

Both frame rails have to be removed!

Block the back tires front and back. Jack the tractor up so the front wheels are about an 1" off the ground. Support the bell housing with plenty of hardwood cribbing.

Use an engine hoist to remove the front bolster and lay it down out of the way. You then will have easy access to the engine.

Splitting stands are really nice but not mandatory.

Be SAFE!

I usually leave one rail on until I have the engine secured to a hoist , then take it off. Just feels better that way.

If you split the tractor at the bell housing, the engine will come out with removing only one frame rail.

However, I suspect that isn't really what you were going after here... You want to keep the overall structure of the tractor intact, and remove the engine... That's not possible.

Either deconstruct the tractor from the front back, or split it and pull one frame rail.

Thanks for the advice and info guys, that was just what I needed to know. Im definatly going to take my time and be safe, cant enjoy the tractor if your in the hospital or dead!!
