Hi guys! I just finished my 1945 A restoration by putting on the decals this morning. It was a long process, but sure was fun and very rewarding to see it all done. Thanks to my son, Michael for all his help and hard work, and my dad, Wayne for his carburetor rebuild, parts procurement and phone advice! I painted it with IH 2150 and Hardener over Epoxy Primer. Decals were from Maple-Hunter (vinyl cut). Since it was a mid to later year 1945 model, I chose to leave the IH on the side...you have to love the transition years when they really don't know what style they used and when the changes happened for sure. It certainly isn't a body shop job, but it came out pretty decent and I am happy with it. Here are a couple of pictures to see where it came from and a link to my complete photobucket album. Every time I do one, I learn something new, so if you have any questions, just ask! BTW, if anyone is interested in the blade or cultivator parts, let me know.

Mark

I purchased it on eBay...they sell them for both A a nd Super A models. I don't see them there all the time, but pretty often. I believe they had them at last years RPRU in Minnesota too. If I recall, it cost about 70 bucks with shipping.

I still have the blade and all the frame for it. I would like to sell it and clean up the shop a bit.

Excellent...beautiful job... What did that step come off of? Looks like it belongs there.

I had a 1945 "A" once also, but I never got around to restoring it. It needed a complete engine rebuild, and I fazed everything out and sold everything before I had a chance to get into it.

Wow! That is a beautiful restoration! We usually like them in their old work clothes - but you guys did a fantastic job. *I do like the way the Farmall emblem on the front of the tractor still has its aged patina. Very cool...have to show this one to my husband.

I tried not to go too over the top...I kept it mostly as the factory would have painted it. The name badge was the original steel one from the war time, so I thought it couldnt be improved too much.

I (Dad/Grandpa) am glad to have contributed to the project; not to mention, proud. It is great to see the results of the education from prior projects completed at my shop in former years.
Good job, Mark & Michael!!

Took me 3 stabs to get through all the photobucket pictures. That is about as thorough of a rebuild as you can get. Nice having 3 generations work on the project. Job well done!

That's the way a paint job should look. When I did a Farmall A in 1975 & 1976 I bought the paint from our local IH dealer and it must of been whale oil. It must of have been on the shelf since the their store opened. I now use Dupont or PPG's paint. Hal

I have had pretty good luck with th IH paint. I used to use DuPont Centari, but that isnt easily found at a reasonable price any more.
