Battery sixe for a 3 cylinder Deisel

I would get the largest size battery that will fit your battery box. If you use the tractor when its cold I would install a tank heater or a coolant heater to preheat the engine before starting. That will help your conserve your batttery. Hal

I always use Walmarts batteries in everything including my garden tractor. Some are over 10 years old including the one in the garden tractor. They all have that 3 year free replacement. Keep the receipts stored away so you can find them. The battery in the tractor has a battery without the posts and are connected on the side like GM use's. The one with the posts burnt the paint off the hood when it touch it. I also had to replace the battery cables. Hal

I agree on Wal-Mart Everstart batteries. However, they are now also selling much more expensive Champion batteries as well. The Champion is supposed to be the high grade now, instead of the yellow cased Everstarts. What has happened is the yellow cased 3 year free replacement battery selection has slimmed down a lot.

I found this battery on the street. They must have bumped the positive terminal. Hal

As someone else has said get the most cranking amps you can fit into the space. It will not be the cheapest battery on the shelf. Diesels are rough on batteries. It is not when the inferior battery is new but when it starts loosing a little of its wump that you will wish for the better battery. Nothing like having a battery that will not first heat then spin you engine on a cold morning. If you are talking about a 3-cylinder you must be taling about a Perkins and they tend to start well in cold conditions if the battery is strong enough to spin it over.
