I just replaced my wiring, I thought I followed Bob's diagram, but must have made a mistake. When I turn the lights on the Ampmeter says charge' not discharge? Also when I pull out the on off button the ampmeter gauge does not move.
Thanks for any help

Jerry

Do you have an alternator on your H or M?

An H or M originally would have no other draw on the electrical system going through the switch other than the coil. The points are merely another switch in the wiring circuit. Unless there is a short some where there will be no draw on the circuit except when the points are closed.

1. Reverse the leads on the ammeter.
2. If you have a magneto, the ammeter will not move.

Jerry - that's an easy fix: Find the wire running from one an ammeter post to the "hot" side of the ignition switch. Relocate the ammeter end of the wire to the opposite ammeter post.

This should get your ammeter working correctly!

If your points were open there will be no drain shown on the amp meter when the switch is pulled out.

I would disagree with that. My Hs and Ms always show a bit of a discharge on the ampmeter when you pull on the coil switch regardless of the points being open or closed.
