IH dealership

Does anyone know what the name of the IH dealership was that was located in Lapeer MI? I found out that is where my 450 was sold new. It is a 1958 model sold new on 7-29-59. I am the second owner and just looking for a little info.

I just looked at the dealership list on the McCormick Archives Collection on the WI Historical Society website. They have the dealership list for dealers active from 1944-1948, which is a little earlier than you`re asking for. The list has 2 dealers in Lapeer,MI area. The 1st is "A. Cronin & Son" and the 2nd is "McCartney Implement Store". Hope that helps.

(quoted from post at 16:16:14 06/09/12) That is a really cool website. Thanks for sharing!

Should I use this one? Looks like that is about the closest.

Schoeneman Implement Company 604 Sherman Avenue Ackley IA <--1948-->

Most all the old IH dealers in my area was not on that list. I can think of six in my immediate area that was not listed.

See if this works ...

HA! Actually that building is still standing, and when Quist bought out the dealership in the late 50's he built the new IH building which is now the Chevy dealership. I can just remember going in there to get parts with Dad, but I was a little tike yet.

There sure was a lot of dealerships back in that 1944-48 period. There is over 9500 on that list. Even small towns had dealers.
Found my families dealership, but took a lot of looking.

That's one of the reasons IH lost a lot of business in the 70's. They closed up a lot of the small dealers. That turned into longer drives'/time to get parts when needed and the farmers felt that IH betrayed them. IH did to make parts and machinery deliveries easyer for them and reduced the number of trucks and drivers needed. What made good sense on paper didn't work out so well in the long run when the farmers switched colors.

Very neat sites about the dealers lists.

Hmm...sound familiar??? They have done it to a few by us. One is parts only and the other is now a used equipment dealer and can't even get parts from CNH.
