Problem with jet behind load screw on a SH carb. Its a .061 size and fuel to rich unless load screw almost bottomed. Not many SH around these parts so I wonder if anyone ever installed a 3-9/16 bore original fire crater kit in one.
Did they come with a bigger jet to install in the kit? Or just use the original jet? Even if they did I don't think they would jump from a .046 size up to the .061. Kind of looks like it was drilled by someone. Since the engine has the fire craters I don't know if I should drop back to .046 or in between. Thanks for any info.
 
dave, we put a firecrater kit in the super h in'74. i remember the different distributor shaft that came with it but i don't remember anything for the carbutetor, randy
 
If you have something between those sizes, you can solder the jet shut & redrill it. Best done in a lathe to keep it centered.
 
Can't help you much, very few around here also and I don't recall putting fire craters in any. Does sound way over board at .061 though.
 
Our SH big bore kit had no jets, it did have springs for the distributor. I would put an original jet back in, and just turn out the load screw. Jim
 
With the adjustable load screws, bigger jets were not necessary with the big bore kits, just turn the screw out a little more. I am assuming you have either the 358-065-R91 gas or the 363-741-R93 dist/kero carb? If you already have it, go back to the stock size, or, if you are going to have to buy it, get one for the 361-525-R92 gas carb. It is a .048 size jet, and will more than make up for any bore increase you have, and you'll get much better specific fuel consumption numbers from your tractor with it. You might want to check the venturi to see if it has been changed out for a larger, non-stock one as well.

As an interesting side note, the old one inch gas carb on the regular H had a .050 jet size in it from the factory and a 24/32 inch venturi, but the Super H's came with the bigger carb but with a smaller, 23/32 inch venturi size and smaller jet size.
 
Thanks for the replies. Didn't think a jet was included for a SH but wanted to make sure. Its the gas carb. and everything else is the original size. Have a .046 jet and will install.
