w9 carb adjustment

hi i got a 1945 w9 and what would the carb
adjustments be? also it backfires a lot even out the
carb and doesnt seem to have much power goin up a
hill it will start backfire and loose power. could
all that be caused by a misadjusted carb? im also
getting a carb kit for it as the needle valve tends
to stick open sometimes which is part of my problem
as well. any help would be very appreciated.

Sounds like you could also use new distributor cap wires and spark plugs,Try cap first it may be cracked

here is a start..first thing to do is adjust the valves. .017 hot. check the points, dist..020 mag is .013. check cap for cracks. check the wires. check the plugs. .025. check the timing. all ihc engines use the same ignition stuff. carb wont make an engine backfire. adjust the main load to 3-4 turns out. idle mixture to 1 1/2 -2 turns out.

Your M cap and rotor will swap in perfectly.

Highly recommend also:

1 - Install new plugs - Champion D21, or your preferred brand's heat range equivalent.

2 - Check/adjust the timing. Should be 0 deg (TDC) at slow idle.
