forum search

I too have terrible luck in finding great posts I have seen in the past using "key words". I would like to hear some feed-back from others who have had trouble or ideas to make my searches better. Thanks, JD

You have to use 1990 search technology. This includes, but is not limited to "" and or + and all those things.

Like Farmall M would really need to be "Farmall+M" (IIRC :? ) There is/was how to somewhere in the search area.

In the classic view in the upper right hand there is a search option
enter your phrase
enter search
after it responds then select your forum or whereever you want to search.
click on go

Try modern view search. It NEVER takes you to parts, at least.

Right underneath the field to put in your search terms, there is a radio button that has the choices of "search for ANY" and search for ALL." If your search has multiple words, select "search for ALL terms."

If you know who made the post, fill in the next field below that... You can go back and look up all of Tractor Vet's posts about using 93 octane gas in 6-cylinder IH tractors, or John T's lectures on generator troubleshooting, for example.

Thanks everyone. I tried the "search" link you gave me and that worked. I must have been using the parts search field unknowingly.

As far as the 1990 search criteria, I'm not familiar with that.

I tried Farmall C carb and got some C and some carb and a whole bunch of:

Farmall IHC

I'm assuming that is because of the Farmall and the C....

Is there a way that I can force the search to list only posts that have specifically my search terms?

I have a '49 C and am having some carb/engine speed problems that I'm trying to diagnose.

thanks again!

Thats where the "Farmall+C+Carb" comes into play. It will only show results with all three of those. Like you said, if you type it in without quotes it will show posts with any or all of those.

I would also recommened searching on Google. Usually YT is one of the first results. You can then click on "Show more discussion results" and that will show you more threads.

An alternative to our search is type into google "site:ytmag.com search-words" (only without quotes, and with your real search words). This will return a well categorized set of links for the topic words you put in.

On our search, you might reenter the search after you get to the actual search page. You should also be able to exclude words with - and require that words be returned as part of the search by putting a + in front of the word. I think it also supports and and or.

You can also use the modern view search as suggested, but it does have the drawback of not returning anything prior to 2007.

Thanks,
Chris

Hey, that works, as a test, I put in google "site:ytmag.com search 460 clutch" without the quotation marks and got what is in the link.
460 clutch
