I finally got the McCormick #31 loader on my 48 H today. Thanks go out to all who helped me with pictures, answers to annoying questions, and words of encouragement. Holy cow does that thing have some lifting POWER! I'm used to my dads 30 hp kubota with a loader which groans with a full bucket of topsoil. Its going to be a learning experience not having live hydraulics, but I'll get it down to a science I'm sure. Thanks again yall. Kippster

If you are using the IH belly valve which do not feather down, it may help to ad a 1/2 ball valve inline from hyd somewhere in reach around the steering post, pipe or hose mount, that way when you lift something you can close the ball valve release the lever and slowly lower something, great safety when people are near, had one on a 53 Super M with live hyd worked well without adding an after market valvebody,

Just be careful. A Farmall H with a front loader is one of the handiest things a guy can have, but it has the ability to pick up and move objects that are much heavier that what that outfit was ever intended to lift. I'm not saying you shouldn't do it, just go slow and use your head.

Did you know that you can now pick up a 3-16s little genius plow, and set it on a deck-over trailer?

Careful. Yes absolutely. Had to test it out
yesterday after I got it all together. Moved a few
scoops of dirt and was awestruck at the amount of
material I had moved in 3 scoops. Now I can't wait
to start cleaning the barn. From brute force and a
pitchfork to a loader is going to be a welcome
change. Thanks again for your help!! Kippster

That sounds like a good idea ! My Sm is not controllable when lowering, although every H I have ever used with a loader was nice and easy to control.

Yeah, like the other guys said, be carefull. Always stay on level ground if possible and carry the load as low as possible. I always think to myself which way I will jump off if she rolls. Like rustyfarmall said, I once suspended a 4 row 494 John Deere corn planter with my H and set it on a deck over.Amazing. Lotsa farmers been killed by them though, especially by a big scoop of dirt or manure. Enjoy !!

My '50 H would be the exception. I know it is an issue with something inside the belly pump, but it works so good otherwise that I really hesitate to tear into it. I've got a spare Char-Lynn 2 way valve. One of these days I'll get around to plumbing that valve into the system, and then my wife will be able to run the controls so I can easily change the bulb in the security light. Dropping like a rock when it's time to come down isn't near as much fun as it used to be.

I had a No. 31 loader and used it on my '45 H and on my '53 Super M. From experience I have to say it's a much better and safer outfit mounted on the bigger tractor. The H was just plain too light to safely handle the loads this loader can lift. Either way you must be very careful handling loads with the bucket elevated to spreader or dump truck sides height. Level ground only and easy on the turns...if turning at all. I used triple sets of wheel weights on both tractors...and an old 160 lb. ensilage cutter flywheel bolted on the H drawbar. No liquid in the tires on either tractor.
