Farmall H Wheel Bearings & Seals - Please Help

Yesterday I went ahead and fitted new bearings to the cast iron front wheels for my Farmall H. All went well. The bearings are packed with grease and fitted without difficulty. Then comes the felt and triple lip seal. Which side of the seal faces the inner bearing? The seal has a metal center which is formed so that one side is flat and the other has an edge on it. I don't want to get this wrong. Any help appreciated.

The seal keeps the grease in, Lip to the inside, the felt keeps the soil out so it is between seal and spindle shoulder. Jim

You are talking about the style seal that is
driven onto the spindle, right. They used to mark
them dirt side, lately they don't seem to do that.
I put them on flat out, (facing you as you drive
them on). I don't think it would make a hill of
beans difference but it is easier to install them
that way. Those three seal ribs will all bend to
the dirt side as you install the hub. Make sure
the seal fits nicely in the hub which may or may
not have a replaceable sleeve for the seal to ride
on. Felts are a thing of the past with this style
seal.
