Super MD transmission leak, front input seal?

I drained the molasses out of the tranny/diff yesterday and refilled it with diesel for a much needed wash down. This has revealed what appears to be a pretty significant tranny leak up front. I had thought the rear main seal was leaking a little, as I would get just a few drops after shutdown, but with diesel fuel in the tranny she's pouring pretty good any time the engine is running.

It's a SMD with stage 2 hydraulics. What am I in for?

Replacing that seal is a relatively easy job.

It can be accomplished without splitting the tractor and no special tools are required. And since your MD has live hydraulics there's no belly pump to get in the way.

Go for it!

2nd that.

Are there two seals there on a live hyd tractor? I haven't done my SMTA yet, but there are on an MD and H.

Does anyone know if this is covered in the Engine & Chassis Service Manual (Binder Books # GSS-5033, originally CHS-87)? Will I benefit any by buying the clutch manual (Binder # GSS-5053, original # CHS-62)?

I want some service manuals anyway, so what better time to get them?

This one really is as easy as take the seal retainer off and put the new seal in. BUT I can justify buying anything...

How do I remove the input yoke from the input gear shaft? The bolt is out and I've pried and hammered (lightly) but it hasn't moved that I can tell.

Looks like the seal retainer has 3 bolts and is bolted to the bearing cage which has 6 bolts. The yoke has to come off to remove the seal retainer, in which case I'm not sure the seal retainer has to come off at all. Or, do I need to remove the bearing cage & input shaft so the whole assembly is out where I can work on it?

IIRC the yoke is threaded on the shaft. Some guys have built a socket so they can put it on the impact. What works really well. I just spun mine off with a big breaker bar. It must have been easy on my MD because I really don't remember doing it, but I did do it when I had mine split.

The parts illustration shows a woodruff key so I don't think it's threaded. All I have out so far is the coupler between the clutch shaft and input yoke, so not much room in there for impacts, pullers & such.

Must be different. I will look at the parts diagram. Like I said, I don't remember taking it off the MD so it must have been easy.
